MADISON, N.J. - The Widener University football team fought hard against FDU-Florham on Saturday, but the Devils pulled away in the second half to come away with a 30-17 win at Robert T. Shields Field.

The loss put the Pride at 1-4 on the year and 0-3 in MAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FDU-FLORHAM
- The Pride jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first 16 seconds of the game after senior wideout Ty Holbert caught a 67-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Chaplin.
- After the Devils tied the game with a 29-yard touchdown pass to end the first quarter, the Pride took the lead right back after Chaplin found Jordan Baxter for a 5-yard TD pass to make it a 14-7 advantage.
- Unfortunately, the Pride's lead did not last, as FDU-Florham made a 27-yard field goal and added a touchdown on a 56-yard pass to take a 17-14 halftime lead.
- In the second half, the Pride trailed by 10 after FDU-Florham opened the third quarter with a 16-yard TD pass to take a 24-14 lead.
- The Pride managed to cut the Devils' lead to 24-17 with 11:20 left in the fourth quarter after Ryan Pattison made a 32-yard field goal. However, the Devils pulled away for good after scoring on a 63-yard touchdown pass with 4:25 left.
By The Numbers
- Chaplin threw a career-high 295 yards on 18-of-36 passing.
- Holbert led the Pride in receiving, racking up 95 yards on four receptions. Baxter topped the Pride in receptions with five and added 56 receiving yards.
- Michael Schoenleber led the Pride defense, as he made eight tackles (four solo, four assisted).
- Dom D'Alessio got a lot of pressure on the quarterback, as the junior defensive end had four quarterback hurries to go with five tackles in the contest.
