CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener women's soccer team earned its first MAC Commonwealth victory of the season by beating Eastern, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.
This victory puts the Pride at 1-0-1 in conference play and 5-3-3 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN
- The Pride offense controlled the ball for the majority of the first half, taking 14 shots while preventing the Eagles from attempting a shot. The Pride scored their first goal in the 13th minute when Ciara Minkel found the back of the net for her first career goal off an assist by Maura Graves.
- After the Eagles tied the game on a goal in the first two minutes into the second half, the Pride received the go-ahead goal from Alyssa Carman, who drove the ball down the field and scored in the 51st minute. Carman currently leads the MAC Commonwealth in shots on goal with 21 after taking four shots on goal in the game.
- The Blue and Gold offense outshot the Eagles, 23-2, in the contest and had 13 shots on goal compared to Eastern's one. Widener currently leads the MAC Commonwealth in shots on goal with 74.
