NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Pat Holden and
Matt Daulerio each scored in double figures, but the Widener men's basketball team had a tough time in the second half against No. 12 Christopher Newport as the Captains came away with an 85-47 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Holden had a team-high 16 points while Daulerio added 11 for the Pride, who dropped to 5-6 overall and 4-3 against non-conference opponents with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT
- The Pride battled hard in the first half against the Captains, as they held a 17-12 lead with 12:24 left in the half. Steven Matlack paced the Pride during the first 7:36 of the game, scoring seven points during that run.
- However, the Captains outscored the Pride, 35-17, to take a 47-34 lead at halftime.
- In the second half, Christopher Newport outscored Widener, 38-13, to improve to 13-2 on the year.
- Holden had 11 of his 16 points in the first half. In addition, he and Daulerio both led the team with six rebounds.

The Pride will return to Pennsylvania and head up to Reading on Wednesday to take on Albright in MAC Commonwealth action. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
