@WidenerSoftball Splits DH With York To Force Game Three of Quarterfinals

YORK, Pa. – The Widener University softball team split its MAC Commonwealth quarterfinal doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to force a tie-breaking game three. The Pride fell 6-1 in the opener and downed the Spartans 2-1 in game two,

BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
York jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening frame off a pair of home runs and further extended that advantage to six in the second inning. The Pride found the board for the first time of the afternoon in the fourth. Benozich knocked out a triple to center field and was plated by a Tiley single. Despite pitching the Spartans scoreless through the final four innings, the Blue and Gold was never able to recover from the early York outburst and was dealt a 6-1 setback.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
Widener opened up the scoring first in the nightcap. York walked the first two batters and they both advanced into scoring position on an ensuing Benozich fly out. Ally McDowell made it home from third on a groundout to make the tally 1-0. The Spartans evened the score back up in the second thanks to a lead-off triple.

In the top of the third, Ally McDowell tripled down the right field line and reached home on a York error to regain the advantage for the Pride. That one run lead would be all the Pride needed as Sieminski threw a scoreless five frames to end the game and pick up her eighth win of the year.
