CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team battled the York (Pa.) Spartans in  game three of the MAC Commonwealth quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon, but saw its season come to an end as it was dealt a 3-1 setback.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Ally McDowell went 2-for-3 at the plate, knocked out her first home run of the year, and recorded an RBI.
• Bella Walker, Hope DiMario, and Carli Benozich each picked up one hit a piece.
• Jennifer Sieminski allowed just one earned run and scattered three hits through her first five innings pitched.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• McDowell got the Pride on the board on the very first at-bat of the game with a solo shot to center field. 
• The Spartans responded in the bottom of the first with a solo homer of their own to make the tally 1-1.
• McDowell got in scoring position in the third when she singled and advanced on a hit by Benozich, but was not able to reach home in the inning.
• Sieminski retired nine of the next ten batters to keep the score locked at one even entering the sixth frame.
• Walker led the sixth off with a double down the left field line, but was left in scoring position as York took down the next three batters.
• The Spartans opened the bottom of the inning with three straight hits to go up 3-1 and kept the Pride scoreless in the seventh as they closed out the win.
