Sieminski Picks Up Fifth Win As @WidenerSoftabll Splits Twin Bill With Eastern

CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener University softball teaml split its doubleheader with Eastern on Friday evening, dropping the opener 4-1 and downing the Eagles 3-1 in game two.

BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
Both teams were held scoreless and only recorded one hit each through the first five innings. Eastern found the board first in the sixth. It opened with two walks and an ensuing double brought a runner home to make the tally 1-0. The Pride evened things up in the bottom of the inning, however. Singles from Mikaela Lovell and Kaylin Johnson put runners on first and second. A Benozich single to left field and an error by Eastern's outfielder allowed Lovell to reach home.

A barrage of hits by the Eagles in the seventh inning and two Pride errors gave Eastern the opportunity to tack on three more runs and pull away for the win in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
After two opening scoreless innings, Widener got on the board first in the third frame. Ally McDowell led off with a walk and Benozich followed up with a bunt. Steals by both players on the next at-bat put two runners in scoring position. Dodgson then cracked a single to plate McDowell. Robinson came in to pinch run for Dodgson and scored on two stolen bases and a wild pitch to put the Pride up 2-0.

The Blue and Gold was able to extend that lead in the fifth. Benozich was walked and stole second to again get in scoring position. Tiley came in to pinch hit and knocked out a hit to center field that plated Benozich. The Eagles were able to tack on a run in the sixth off a double, but Sieminski escaped the inning and closed out the game to pick up her fifth victory of the season.
