Season-High Scoring Effort Leads @WidenerWLAX Past Eastern

CHESTER, Pa. – Four players recorded hat tricks as the Widener University women's lacrosse team posted its highest scoring output of the season, downing the Eastern Eagles 23-5 on Wednesday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Gab Cohen led the Pride with six goals on the day.
  • Emma DiGilio led all scorers with seven points on the strength of four goals and three assists.
  • Caroline Kelley had four goals, an assist, and won three draw controls.
  • Amber Bretz posted three goals, three assists, and six draw controls.
  • Alexis Colella led the Pride with seven draw, adding two goals and an assist.
  • Katie Ward found the back of the net twice and helped on two others.
  • Kaely Cristello topped the Blue and Gold with three caused turnovers.
  • It is the most goals for the Pride since scoring 23 against Hood on April 6, 2019.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener jumped on top big early. DiGilio scored the first goal of the match just 11 seconds into the contest.
  • The initial goal started a barrage that led to an 8-0 Pride lead in the first 8:06 of the game, including a natural hat trick from Cohen.
  • After Eastern posted two in a row, the Blue and Gold went on a 7-1 run to close the half.
  • Widener opened the second half well as DiGilio, Cohen, and Kelley scored in the first five minutes to go up 18-3.
  • The Pride expanded the lead throughout the contest including tallies from Jamie DeHaven and Amelia Alminde.
 
UP NEXT
Widener heads on the road, traveling to No. 20 Messiah on Saturday, April 10. Opening draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
