Bretz Overtime Tally Propels @WidenerWLAX Past Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md.Amber Bretz scored 1:23 into overtime as the Widener University women's lacrosse team topped the Stevenson Mustangs 8-7 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
  • It is the first ever win for Widener women's lacrosse against Stevenson. The Pride was previously 0-9 against he Mustangs,.
  • The game was the first overtime win for the Blue and Gold since an 11-10 victory against Cabrini on March 14, 2018.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A very close game throughout, neither team held more than a one goal lead all day.
  • Ward started the scoring less than two minutes into the game, before Stevenson scored twice, taking a 2-1 lead at the 19:58 mark.
  • The Pride scored three of the final four goals of the game, two from Kelley and a player-up goal from Cohen with four seconds remaining before intermission, putting WU up 4-3 at break.
  • The teams traded goals during the half with the Mustangs tying the game with the final tally in regulation at the 5:34 mark.
  • In the extra session, Widener held the ball the entire time, winning the draw. After a shot that missed the cage, Bretz drew a foul and converted the ensuing free position shot for the game winner.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride concludes its regular season against Alvernia on Wednesday, April 21. Opening draw is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
