OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Amber Bretz scored 1:23 into overtime as the Widener University women's lacrosse team topped the Stevenson Mustangs 8-7 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

• It is the first ever win for Widener women's lacrosse against Stevenson. The Pride was previously 0-9 against he Mustangs,.
• The game was the first overtime win for the Blue and Gold since an 11-10 victory against Cabrini on March 14, 2018.

 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Caroline Kelley led all scorers with four goals on the day. She also won three draw controls.
• Bretz, Gab Cohen, Katie Ward, and Emma DiGilio each scored once.
• Maddie Medve came up big in goal with 13 saves.
• Kaely Cristello had two caused turnovers.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• A very close game throughout, neither team held more than a one goal lead all day.
• Ward started the scoring less than two minutes into the game, before Stevenson scored twice, taking a 2-1 lead at the 19:58 mark.
• The Pride scored three of the final four goals of the game, two from Kelley and a player-up goal from Cohen with four seconds remaining before intermission, putting WU up 4-3 at break.
• The teams traded goals during the half with the Mustangs tying the game with the final tally in regulation at the 5:34 mark.
• In the extra session, Widener held the ball the entire time, winning the draw. After a shot that missed the cage, Bretz drew a foul and converted the ensuing free position shot for the game winner.
