@WidenerWLAX Sends Seniors Off In Style, Clinches Quarterfinal Home Game

CHESTER, Pa.Caroline Kelley scored five goals and tallied her 100th career point as the Widener University women's lacrosse team clinched a home playoff game, downing the Alvernia Golden Wolves 17-3 on Wednesday night.
 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
  • Kelley's second goal of the night, coming at the 14:55 mark of the first half gave her the 100 point total. She now has 96 career goals.
  • With the win, the Pride is now 5-3 in conference and will host a MAC Commonwealth quarterfinal game. It is just the second time women's lacrosse will host a home playoff game, last doing so on May 4, 2010 against Lycoming.
  • Prior to the game, Widener honored its three seniors, Kelley, Emma DiGilio, and Alexis Colella with a senior night ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue and Gold scored the first two goals of the game on markers by Cohen and DiGilio before the Golden Wolves answered with a pair of their own, drawing even just more than seven minutes into the contest.
  • Widener responded, posting nine unanswered to end the half, including a natural hat trick from Kelley in a span of 5:20, culminating with a player up goal at the 14:07 mark.
  • Bretz opened the second half scoring with her second of the night, leading to a 6-1 Pride advantage in the final 30 minutes.
 
UP NEXT
The MAC Commonwealth quarterfinals will take place on Tuesday, April 27. An announcement as to who Widener plays will be made later this week.
