Pitching Delivers A Pair Of Shutouts For @WidenerBaseball In DH Sweep Of Albright

READING, Pa. – A pair of dominating pitching performances led the Widener University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Albright on Saturday as the Pride blanked the Lions 2-0 and 13-0.

GAME ONE NOTES
  • Andrew Jaffarian turned in a career-best performance, tossing five splendid innings, scattering four hits, striking out a personal best six batters.
  • Anthony Boccio, Bryce Fremgen, Kyle Brex, and Greg Elfreth each collected a hit.
  • Widener got on the board in the first when Boccio doubled with two outs and was driven in on a single from Fremgen. WU doubled the lead in the fifth as Matt Samson walked and moved to second when Brex singled. Samson scored one batter later on a sac fly by Boccio.
  • Toby Hallman and Jake Good each pitched a scoreless inning of relief, with both striking out two.
  • Good earned his fifth save of the season, second in the MAC Commonwealth this season and the most for a Widener pitcher since Kevin Culbert locked down six games in 2008.

GAME TWO NOTES
  • Once again the Blue and Gold got a superb performance from its starter as Dylan Peiffer tossed seven shutout innings, surrendering just three hits and did not walk a batter. He struck out 10, matching his career-high, originally set earlier this year against York.
  • Boccio led the offense, gong 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.
  • Brex, Fremgen, and Tommy McParland each had two hits. Brex scored three times.
  • Aaron Nuble drove in a pair and scored a run.
  • Every member of the starting lineup had either a hit or an RBI in the game.
  • Off the bench, Austin Oliver and Alex Savkov each went 1-for-1 and drove in a run.
  • Michael Bell and Caleb Horner both tossed a scoreless, hitless inning out of the pen.
  • Unlike the opener, the offense flowed freely in game two for Widener, which scored 11 runs in the first four innings, highlighted by a three-run homer from Boccio in the second.
