GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Widener University men's basketball team downed the Messiah Falcons 77-61 to finish 4-4 in conference play this season.
GAME NOTES
- One week after recording his first double-double, first year Matt Daulerio turned in another impressive performance, netting a team-high 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
- Steven Matlack delivered six rebounds and 11 points, including three three-pointers.
- Jared Peters tallied nine in the scoring column and got nine rebounds.
- The Pride went 12-of-23 on three-point attempts (52.2 percent). The last time the team shot better than 50 percent from beyond the arc was also against Messiah in a 87-81 win on February 7, 2020.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Widener got off to a hot start, going up 9-1 after six minutes of play. Strong three-point shooting and 10 first half points from Daulerio allowed it to extend the advantage and enter halftime with a commanding 15 point lead.
The second act was much of the same for the Blue and Gold as it went on shoot 60% from deep in the half while holding the Falcons to just 31.6 percent from the field. The Pride never let Messiah catch back up, going up by as many as 21 as it closed out the game and secured its fourth victory of the season.

Widener closes out the regular season with a back-to-back series against former MAC Commonwealth foe Arcadia. The Pride takes on the Knights at the Schwartz Center of Thursday, March 4, and travels to Glenside on Friday, March 5. Both games are set to tip off at 7 p.m.
