Elfreth Gets 100th Career Hit In @WidenerBaseball Doubleheader Against York

CHESTER, Pa. Greg Elfreth collected his 100th career hit, but the Widener University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the York (Pa.) Spartans in its conference opening doubleheader on Saturday.
 
BY THE NUMBERS  
GAME ONE NOTES (L, 12-3)
  • Widener got off to a good start as Dylan Peiffer struck out the side in the top of the first.
  • The Pride scored two runs in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Yates.
  • WU plated its final run of the game in the sixth as Yates doubled home Savkov, who singled leading off the inning.
 
GAME TWO NOTES (L, 18-2)
  • Boccio got the offense started for the Pride with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first.
  • After York tied the game, Widener retook the lead in the bottom of the third as Savkov and Reis engineered a double steal. Attempting the catch the lead runner, the throw sailed, allowing Savkov to score.
  • Things started well on the mound for Liam Nihill who allowed one run and struck out three in his first three innings.

Widener returns to action tomorrow when it travels to York for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
