Kyra Schenk had nine points and six rebounds in the second half as the Widener University women's basketball team rallied for a 57-48 win at Lebanon Valley on Friday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Schenk ended the game with 13 points and eight rebounds, adding five blocks, two steals, and three assists.
- Jordan D'Ambrosio added 13 for the Pride.
- Gianna Samuels scored 12, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, adding a career-high eight rebounds.
- Erin Phelan posted 10 points and eight boards.
- Widener outrebounded LVC 26-15 in the second half.
HISTORICAL PERSPCTIVE
- It is the third straight season the Blue and Gold start the year 6-0. Widener had never won more than four in a row opening a year since the 1981-82.
- The win marks the first time in the 59-game history of the series against the Dutchmen that Widener has won four in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Things did not start well for the Pride as Lebanon Valley jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and was down 11-2 with 3:08 left in the first period before scoring 10 of the last 12 points of the frame, four each from Phelan and D'Ambrosio, slicing the led to 13-12 heading into the second. An even 10 minutes followed as LVC took a 24-23 lead into halftime.
Starting the third quarter, Widener went on a 19-9 run that lasted nearly seven minutes, sparked by a trio of treys from Samuels, eventually taking a 44-39 edge into the final period. Schenk took over in the fourth, scoring five and blocking four shots as the Blue and Gold prevailed.

Widener is set for a showdown against the only other remaining undefeated team in the MAC Commonwealth, the Messiah Falcons. The two-game series starts in Mechanicsburg on March 4 with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
