Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Pride came out of the gate swinging, posting four runs in the bottom of the first inning. After
Matt Samson walked and Brex singled, Wood cracked a double to center, scoring both runners, a groundout moved Wood to third in front of a Costanzo walk. Widener executed a double steal with Wood coming across the plate, making it 3-0. The scoring in the frame closed on a Reis single, scoring Costanzo.Â
Â
Wasting no time, Muhlenberg got all the runs back in the top of the second. The game remained that way until the fourth inning when Wood struck again, hitting a three-run homer, part of a five-run inning for the Blue and Gold, going up 9-4. Â
Â
Once again, the seemingly comfortable lead was short-lived as the Mules posted four in the top of the fifth, slicing the lead to a single run. Widener scratched across an unearned run in the bottom of the frame on a groundout by Reis. Undaunted, Muhlenbeg took its first lead of the game in the top of the seventh, scoring three times to forge ahead 11-10. Â
Â
This time it was the Pride who battled back. Singles by Costanzo and Reis sandwiched a walk to
Tommy McParland, loading the bases with nobody out.
Sam Lesher promptly doubled to left, scoring Costanzo and McParland, pushing WU on top 12-11. Coming up next,
Stephen Posner hit a double of his own, bringing home two runs. Posner advanced to third on the play on an error by the leftfielder and came in to score on a passed ball to make it 15-11.Â
Â
From there, it was Peiffer (2-1) who took care of the rest. Coming on in the seventh, he recorded the final two outs there before striking out the side in the eighth. He allowed a two-out walk in the ninth before securing the final out of the game on a fly out.Â
