AUBURNDALE, Fla. –
Matt Samson hit his first homerun of the season, but the Widener University baseball team allowed four unearned runs as the Pride fell to Trine 10-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- In addition to Samson's homer, Kyle Brex also drove in a run.
- Chris Sparacino tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
- Liam Nihill struck out four in his collegiate debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Samson clocked his first of the season, knotting the game at 1-1.
Trine started to pull away with four in the third. Widener battled back in the fourth as with one out,
Bryce Fremgen walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. A single from
Brandon Reis moved him to third and an error on the shortstop allowed Fremgen to score.
WU got its final run of the game in the seventh as
Stephen Posner was hit by a pitch. He moved to seonc on a groundout and came in to score on the single by Brex.
