WINCHESTER, Va. – The Widener University baseball team got off to a hot start, but could not sustain the offense as the Pride was upended in both ends of a doubleheader against Shenandoah, falling 5-3 in the opener and 10-1 in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Widener jumped on top in the opening inning of game one as the Pride batted around. With one out, Boccio singled in his first collegiate at-bat and moved to second on a groundout. Five consecutive batters reached after that as Wood singled home Boccio for a 1-0 lead.
Greg Elfreth followed with a hit, moving Wood to third before
Brandon Reis singled. Wood scored on the play and Elfreth advanced to second. Fremgen followed with an RBI single of his own prior to a
Kyle Brex walk completed the five-batter run.
Shenandoah jumped back with three in the bottom of the first and one each in the second and fourth innings to cement the final score.
The second game was scoreless into the third when the Hornets scored four in the third and two in the fourth. WU got on the board in the sixth when
Matt Samson was hit by a pitch, stole second and came in to score on a double by Wood.
