CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's lacrosse team put on an impressive offensive display that saw records fall as the Pride celebrated Senior Day with a 23-10 victory against Hood in a MAC Commonwealth contest on Saturday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kelly Lynch set a program record with eight assists in the game, breaking her own mark from last season when she had seven against Eastern. Including her five goals, she tied the school standard for points in a game with 13.
- Emma DiGilio led the Blue and Gold with six goals. Melanie Bert and Meg Steffney each had a hat trick with four and three tallies respectively.
- Kristi Rohrer and Chelsea Forsyth posted two goals apiece. Caroline Kelley had one.
- Amber Bretz was key in helping Widener control the ball with eight draw controls. Rohrer had six as the Pride held a 20-13 advantage overall.
- Lynch, Kelley, and Grace Lindberger each had four ground balls.
- The game was the fourth time this season Widener posted 20 or more goals, the most in team history. The previous high was two, done several times, most recently last season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Hood opened the scoring a minute into the contest, the Pride used a 4-0 run as two goals by DiGilio, one by Lynch, and one by Steffney pushed WU to a 4-1 before the six minute mark.
- Leading 4-3 after nine minutes, Widener went on an 8-1 run to end the half. Lynch did the majority of her damage during the stretch, scoring four times.
- The Blue and Gold continued the onslaught in the second, scoring the first three goals before the Blazers chipped away, netting of their own to pull to 15-7.
- Widener put any doubt in the game to rest, working a 7-1 run to extend to a 22-8 lead. Lynch had four assists in the spurt, the last of which, setting up Bert's fourth goal of the afternoon, set the record.
