@WidenerWLax Throws Scare into #MAClax Leading Albright

CHESTER, Pa.  – The Widener University women's lacrosse team battled MAC Commonwealth leading Albright within a handful of goals for the entire game before falling 14-11 on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue and Gold got off to a hot start, netting the first two goals of the game in the opening four minutes as Bretz and Steffney found the back of the net.
  • After Albright knotted the score, Widener took the lead back at the 17:37 mark as Kelley scored unassisted.
  • The Lions posted the next five goals before DiGilio scored her first with eight seconds left in the frame, pulling the Pride to within 7-4 at halftime.
  • Albright scored the first goal out of intermission, but quick strikes by Bert and Kelley made it a two-goal game again at the 23:50 mark. Once again, the Lions pushed the lead to four before Lynch and DiGilio found rope, slicing the deficit to 10-8.
  • AC took a 13-9 lead with 8:39 left before WU made its final push. Lynch scored on the free position with 6:28 to go. Widener won the subsequent draw control and raced downfield. Lynch found a cutting DiGilio who scored at the 5:59 mark, making it 13-11.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride returns to action on Saturday, April 13 when it travels to Stevenson. Opening draw is slated for 1:00 p.m.
