CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team battled Albright College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lions 5-0 in game one, and then dropping game two against the conference rival 8-7 in 11 innings.

Highlights
  • Mikaela Lovell recorded three hits at the dish and drove in two runs.
  • Ariel Silva had three hits, scored two runs, and tallied three RBI
  • Ally McDowell went 4-6 in game two, bringing in two runs in the process and scoring one.
  • Hope DiMario set a career-high for hits and RBI in game two, finding holes in the defense three different times and brining three of her teammates home.
  • Kait Jaworski threw a two-hit complete game shutout in game one.

How it happened in game one
  • The Pride jumped on the board in the bottom of the first after Silva smacked two-run homer.
  • Lindsey Cooper led off the second with a double off the left field fence. DiMario bunted her over to third, then Mikaela Lovell bunted for a single and scored Cooper.
  • Silva got her second RBI of the day in the third, bringing home Jamie Gosselin with a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • Lovell knocked in the final run of the game for Widener in the fourth, singling to left field and scoring Cooper again.
  • Jaworski shut the Lions down in order in the final three innings.

How it happened in game two
  • Jaworski got the nod in the game two and pitched her eighth consecutive scoreless inning in the top of the first.
  • Widener opened up a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • Albright cut the deficit to one in the top half of the second, then tied it at four in the third.
  • McDowell put Widener back on top with a two RBI single in the bottom of the third.
  • A two-run Albright homer in the fourth knotted it at six.
  • Neither team budged, staying even at six until the top of the 10th inning.
  • If the score remains tied after nine innings in a conference game, each team is awarded a runner on second base at the start of the 10th inning.
  • Albright took advantage of the rule, bringing home the runner on second base after a sacrifice bunt and an error.
  • DiMario came up clutch for the Pride in the bottom of the 10th, singling to right and bringing home Marissa Camac.
  • An Albright run in the top of the 11th cemented the final score.
