GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Widener University was tied with Messiah midway through the second half before the Falcons pulled away at the close as the Pride was upended 17-14 in a MAC Commonwealth battle on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener got the early jump in the game as Bretz scored off the opening draw just 17 seconds into the contest. Bert followed two minutes later, doubling the Pride lead.
- Messiah gathered itself and ripped off a 7-1 run, opening a 7-3 advantage at the 17:13 mark.
- Trailing 10-6 with seven minutes to go in the first half, the Blue and Gold posted the final four goals of the frame as two by Lynch and one each from Bretz and Rohrer knotted the contest at 10-10 heading into the break.
- Widener kept the momentum going as Lynch scored early in the second stanza to put the Pride on top.
- The Falcons scored four of the next five goals, retaking a 14-12 lead before WU got tallies from DiGilio and Lynch to tie the game at 14-14 with 14:46 remaining.
- Messiah tightened the defense and pushed in the final three goals of the contest down the stretch.
