Silva Walk-off Lifts @WidenerSoftball to Sweep Over Eastern

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team held its annual Strikeout Cancer games on Tuesday night, going up against Eastern University. The Pride lineup caused serious damage and took two from the Eagles, winning both contests by a combined 15 runs.

Highlights
How it happened in game one
  • Jaworski went 1-2-3 in the top of the first.
  • Widener batted around and put up a four-piece in the bottom half of the first.
  • Silva took one for the team, bringing home the first run of the day after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • A Camac single scored Jamie Gosselin.
  • Two more runs came by way of a fielder's choice and a walk.
  • Eastern got one back in the second.
  • Gosselin and Silva teamed up for a run in the second when Silva bunted the Pride center fielder home, making it 5-1.
  • Four more from the Blue and Gold in the fourth created a margin too large for the Eagles to overcome.
  • Jaworski held Eastern scoreless for the remainder of the game.

How it happened in game two
  • Eastern went up 1-0 in the first.
  • Widener evened it in the second after Lindsey Cooper brought home Camac with a squeeze bunt.
  • The Pride jumped out in front in the third. Benozich walked and crossed the plate off of a single from Dodgson.
  • WU put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth, all with two outs.
  • Silva was hit by another pitch and Eastern surrendered a run because of it.
  • Dodgson cleared the bases with a double to left center.
  • Camac scored Dodgson with a single.
  • Anna Robinson led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk.
  • After an out, McDowell walked too.
  • Gosselin moved Robinson to third with a sacrifice fly and McDowell stole second.
  • Benozich single, scoring both baserunners.
  • Silva ended the game with a two-run shot off of the Widener scoreboard in left field.
