SANFORD, Fla. – The Widener University baseball team got a good start from
Kade Jones and a pair of hits by
Nick D'Alessandro, but some tough defense saw the Pride upended 8-2 by Coe on Wednesday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jones turned in six strong innings, not allowing an earned run, striking out four.
- In addition to his two hits, D'Alessandro stole a base and scored.
- Brennan Taylor went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener scored the opening run of the game in the third as Taylor doubled with one out, moved third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout from Matt Samson.
- Coe score four times in the fifth, all unearned as the Blue and Gold committed three errors in the frame.
- The Pride cut into the lead in the seventh as D'Alessandro doubled to open the inning and came into score on an error. Coe followed in the eighth with four more runs, three unearned to cement the final score.
