@WidenerSoftball Falls to Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Widener University softball team went toe-to-toe with Swarthmore College on Wednesday afternoon, narrowly dropping both games in the double-header by a combined three runs.

Highlights
How it happened in game one
  • Strong pitching held both teams scoreless for the first two innings
  • Swarthmore put up all four runs in the bottom of the third
  • Widener tried to rally back in the top of the seventh
  • Silva reached on an error
  • Camac doubled, moving Silva to third
  • A single by Cooper brought both runners home
  • Two fly outs ended it

How it happened in game two
  • The Garnet built a five run lead over the first four innings
  • The Pride got two back in the fifth
  • Camac led off the inning with a double, then moved to third on a Cooper single
  • Camac crossed the plate on bunt single from Hope DiMario
  • Cooper scored on a Mikaela Lovell single to center field
  • Kait Jaworski silenced the Swarthmore bats in the fifth and sixth, keeping Widener within striking distance
  • The Pride climbed back in the top of the seventh
  • Lovell got it going with a single
  • After two consecutive outs, Carli Benozich walked
  • Silva singled, scoring Lovell
  • Kelly Dodgson cut the deficit to one with an RBI single
  • Silva scored on an error, knotting the game at five
  • Swat won it in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly
