CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University baseball team fought back in the middle innings before an extra inning rally by The College of New Jersey upended the Pride 9-4 in 11 frames on Tuesday afternoon.
 


BY THE NUMBERS

• Andrew Jaffarian got the start for the Blue and Gold, throwing a career-best seven innings, allowing three earned runs including tossing five shutout frames to end his day.
• Nick D'Alessandro went 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBI.
• Stephen DeBellis and Dylan Morrissette each drove in a run for the Pride.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Down 4-0 after the first two innings, Widener stemmed the tide and kept the score into the sixth when D'Alessandro doubled with one out and moved to third on a balk before coming in to score on a groundout by Morrissette.
• The Blue and Gold made its big move in the seventh as with one out, Brandon Reis singled. Tommy Scharnikow walked in front of a double by DeBellis, scoring Reis while advancing Scharnikow to third. Following a pitching change, D'Alessandro greeted the new hurler with a single up the middle, scoring both runners, knotting the game at 4-4.
• WU had a chance in the 10th, putting a runner on third with one out, but were unable to push across the winning run. TCNJ then took advantage in the 11th to put the game away.
