@WidenerSoftball Splits with Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Widener University softball team began Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth competition on Sunday afternoon, going up against the Lycoming Warriors and splitting the double-header. The Pride dropped game one 4-2 then bounced back with a 7-1 victory in game two.

Highlights
  • Ally McDowell had a three-for-six day at the plate. The freshman scored two runs and drove in one.
  • Carli Benozich had three hits, scored three runs, recorded 4 RBI, and hit her first triple of the year.
  • Gosselin scored her 20th and 21st runs of the season.
  • Sydney Powell threw a four-hit complete game for her fourth win of the year.

How it happened in game one
  • McDowell got it started in the first inning, singling then stealing second
  • Benozich hit McDowell to third
  • Ariel Silva grounded out to short, but brought McDowell home, making it 1-0
  • Malia Calciano singled to left on the next at bat, scoring Benozich
  • A four-run fifth by Lycoming cemented the final score

How it happened in game two
  • Benozich knocked in the Pride's first run with sacrifice fly in the first inning
  • Lycoming got the run back in the second
  • Marissa Camac smacked a single with two on in the fourth, Benozich scored on the play
  • Mikaela Lovell doubled in the fifth and crossed the plate on a McDowell single to center field
  • Sydney Powell pitched five scoreless innings
  • Four more Widener runs in the seventh provided some insurance en route to the win
