@WidenerSoftball Keeps Rolling, Grabbing Two Victories Against Cabrini

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University softball team nabbed two dubs against Cabrini College on Wednesday evening, winning game one in a dramatic fashion, scoring five runs in the seventh to send it to extras, then walking it off in the 10th. The Pride took care of business in game two, securing a 7-4 victory and denying a Cavalier comeback effort.

Highlights
  • Malia Calciano and Marissa Camac hit back-to-back homeruns (a career-first for both of them) in the seventh inning of game one, knotting the score at seven.
  • Calciano ended the day 4-7 with two RBI, and two runs scored
  • Ariel Silva had a 3-7 day at the plate, tallying four RBI and two runs
  • Jamie Gosselin hit a walk off single in game one, knocking in Hope DiMario
  • Isabella Kostic got her first win of the year in game one
  • Kait Jaworski locked up win number six in game two
  • The sweep was the Pride's third in its last four series

How it happened in game one
  • Widener was held hitless going into the bottom of the fourth inning and trailed 2-0
  • An error by the Cabrini right fielder on a Lindsey Cooper fly ball saw Calciano cross the plate first for the Pride
  • Cooper was brought home on a single by Hope DiMario
  • Solid pitching and fielding forced scoreless softball for the next two innings
  • A five-run top of the seventh by the Cavaliers put the Pride in a steep hole
  • Widener stepped up the plate (pun intended) and fired back with five runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning
  • Gosselin started the rally with a single and Ally McDowell followed with a single of her own
  • Carli Benozich advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt
  • Silva doubled to make it 7-4
  • Calciano smacked an opposite field homerun to left-center, cutting the deficit to one
  • Camac's solo homerun on the very next at bat made it 7-7 and forced extra innings
  • Cabrini went up one in the top of the 10th
  • Camac scored the game-tying run on a Cabrini error after Hope DiMario attempted a sacrifice bunt. DiMario moved to second on the play, then moved to third on a Lovell groundout
  • Gosselin singled, driving in DiMario from third and winning game one

How it happened in game two
  • Widener put up three in the bottom of the first, two runs coming off the bat of Silva
  • Mikaela Lovell provided the fourth run, bringing home Cooper with single down the left field line
  • Gosselin and McDowell drove in runs five, six, and seven
  • The Cavaliers struggled to find offense against Jaworski until the fifth inning
  • Sydney Powell was brought in to replace Jaworski in the sixth
  • Cabrini got three runs back, but Pride halted the comeback attempt for its 11th win of the year
