SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Widener University baseball team made the short trip up Route 320 to take on #7 Swarthmore on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a strong start on the mound, the Pride fell to the Garnet 6-1 in a non-conference contest.
Drawing his first career start,
Joey Zettlemoyer was scoreless through the first three innings before Swarthmore tallied three runs in the fourth. That was the only scoring in the game before Widener got one back in the sixth as with two outs,
Stephen DeBellis walked and stole second in front of
Nick D'Alessandro who singled, plating DeBellis, cutting the lead to 3-1. The Garnet added a run in the sixth and two in the eighth to seal the final.
The Blue and Gold is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Haverford for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
