CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University baseball team was upended in a MAC Commonwealth doublehdeader by the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Saturday afternoon, dropping the opener 4-3 and falling in the second game 3-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE

• Trailing 3-0 into the bottom of the second inning, Tommy Scharnikow singled and moved to second on an error. Brennan Taylor singled, moving Scharnikow to third. With Matt Samson at the plate, Taylor stole second. On the play, an error allowed Scharnikow to score with Taylor moving to third.
• Samson followed with an infield single, plating Taylor, cutting the lead to 3-2.
• In the fourth, the Blue and Gold tied the game as Bryce Fremgen singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. Fremgen moved to third on a balk and came in to score on a single by Samson.
• Alvernia scored the eventual winning run on an RBI groundout in the fifth.
• Kade Jones tossed a complete game for the Pride, striking out a career best eight batters.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO

• Alvernia scored single runs in the first, sixth, and seventh innings.
• Dylan Peiffer tossed 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
• Stephen DeBellis, Nick D'Alessandro, and Dylan Morrissette each had a hit for Widener.

Widener is back in action on Tuesday when it makes the short trip to Swarthmore. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
