READING, Pa. – The Widener University baseball team rallied in the middle innings before falling in a weather-shortened game 7-3 to the Alvernia Golden Wolves in MAC Commonwealth action on Friday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Matt Samson and Brandon Reis led the Pride with two hits each.
• Joey Norton turned in a strong performance out of the bullpen, allowing just one earned run on three hits in four innings.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Trailing 4-0 heading into the third, the Pride got the offense going early as Greg Elfreth was hit by a pitch, followed by a Brennan Taylor double. Matt Samson came through with a single, scoring Elfreth to get the Blue and Gold on the board.
• Not done there, Samson stole second, putting runners on second and third for Brandon Reis who singled to score Taylor, cutting the lead to 4-2. After loading the bases, Widener hot a third run in the frame on a groundout.
• Alvernia posted single runs each in the third, sixth and seventh innings to cement the final score.

 
UP NEXT
The two teams are back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled to be played at Widener.
