WASHINGTON, D.C. – 12 different players made the score sheet, propelling the Widener University men's basketball team to an 80-65 victory over the Gallaudet Bison on Tuesday night.
Back and forth for the first seven minutes, Widener used a 12-0 run, initiated by an
Elijah Boyd three-pointer and capped off by a
Jared Peters free-throw, to break it open with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Gallaudet brought it to within three at one point, but a 9-1 run by the Pride to close out the half put WU up 11 at the intermission.
Widener displayed stellar shooting in the second half, led by
Connor Laverty. The junior scored 11 points, going five-for-six from the field and giving Widener its biggest advantage of the night at 22 by way of a three-pointer at the 8:17 mark. The reserves protected the lead the rest of the way.

Kolbey Woodard scored a combined 12 points in the final five minutes of action.
By the numbers:
- Laverty was the high-man for Widener, finishing with 17 points on 63.6 percent shooting. He also led the team with five assists and seven rebounds
- Boyd was perfect from the field, collecting his 12 points by going four-for-four from three-point territory
- Sawyers had one of the best performances of his young career, recording seven points and four rebounds
- Kenny Lewis and Jalen Howard both went four-for-five from the field and had eight points a piece
- The Widener defense caused 18 turnovers
- The Pride held Gallaudet to only 23 rebounds, the lowest by any opponent this season
