Fourth Quarter Comeback Effort Falls Shy for @WUWBB

GLENSIDE, Pa. – A furious fourth quarter comeback fell a few points short as the Widener University women's basketball team was downed 67-54 by the Arcadia Knights on Tuesday evening.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Devan Rimmer led Widener on the day with 20 points, including a trio of three pointers.
  • Drawing her first career start, Nicole Barnes turned in a strong performance with nine points, four rebounds, and three steals.
  • Madison Ireland had five assists in the game, surpassing 400 in her career.
  • The Pride struggled in two areas they have excelled normally this season, getting outrebounded 46-28 while getting to the free throw line just four times.
  • WU posted its second highest total of the season with 14 steals and forced 21 Arcadia turnovers.
  • The Blue and Gold scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, its second highest single period total of the season, surpassed only by its 30-point output in the third quarter at Penn State Brandywine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener found itself down 51-25 early in the fourth quarter before starting a massive rally. A 23-7 explosion taking just 5:07 off the clock pulled WU to 58-50 with 2:59 remaining. Following a pair of Arcadia free throws, the Blue and Gold went back to work on offense, but the Knights were able to tighten the defense in the paint and seal the game at the line to hold on for the win.
  • The Pride got off to a rough start, finding itself down 11-2 just four minutes into the contest before trailing 18-6 after the opening period.
  • After a brief burst midway through the second quarter, Arcadia regained its form and went into halftime with an 18-point lead.
  • More of the same followed in the third as the Knights outscored the Blue and Gold 14-10, taking a 49-25 lead into the final period.
