CHESTER, Pa. –
Alyssa Dionisio and
Bella Abrams were honored as the lone seniors on the Widener University women's soccer team prior to the Pride's match against Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon. WU went on to tie the Dutchmen 1-1 in 110 minutes of action.
How it happened
Widener came out aggressive, firing off four shots in the opening 11 minutes. LVC broke through first though, capitalizing on its fourth shot of the game at the 25:26 mark. The Dutchmen carried the lead into halftime.
A counterattack spark the Pride's goal. With the opposing defense at midfield,
Lexi Slusher played a goal for
Emily Schall over the top of the back line. Schall beat the keeper 1 v. 1 for her fourth goal of the season, coming in the 52nd minute. WU controlled possession for the remainder of regulation but could not break the draw.
Shots were even at one in the first overtime period.
Bella Abrams had a last minute shot saved by the LVC keeper in the second OT.
Concluding the Season
Widener improved on its 2018 record by three wins.
Lexi Slusher ended the year as the fifth leading scorer in the conference with eight goals. Slusher and
Hannah Berard tied for third in the conference in assists, tallying six each. Slusher, Dionisio,
Isabella Hill, and
Abby Fenton all cracked the top-20 in total points.
