ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Widener University women's volleyball team played a pair of close matches, but fell by 3-1 counts to both Eastern and Rowan at the Eastern Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon.
 
NOTES VS. EASTERN (21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25)

• Claire Kaufmann led the Pride with nine kills, four aces, and two blocks.
• Hollie Jones had eight kills and three blocks.
• Carly Venit posted five blocks for Widener.
• Sydney Nichols had 17 assists. Emma Wilcock added 11.
• WU displayed a strong defense as Kayla Ewart (14), Shelby Motz (11), and Ashley McAfee (10) were each in double figures in digs.
• As a team, the Blue and Gold had 13 aces, its second highest total of the season.

 
NOTES VS. ROWAN (15-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-25)

• Motz came close to a double-double with 12 kills and eight assists.
• Kaufman added 10 kills and four blocks.
• Nichols had a season-high 30 assists.
• The Pride tied a season-high with eight blocks in the match.
