ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Widener University men's basketball team shot the lights out on Wednesday night en route to an 86-60 win over Lebanon Valley. The Pride is now 8-4 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Widener came out firing, building a 15-4 lead in the opening six minutes of the first half.
Jared Peters and
Elijah Boyd accounted for the Pride's next 11 points, putting WU up 26-7 at the 10 minute mark. The reserves accounted for 20 points in the first half. A layup by
Kenny Lewis with 3:24 left in the half created WU's biggest advantage at 34 points. LVC narrowed the gap slightly, but the Pride strolled into the locker rooms at the intermission up 53-25
Widener never took its foot off the gas, maintaining a substantial lead for the remainder of the night. LVC cut it to 22 at one point, but that was as close as the Dutchmen would get.
Jalen Howard dropped eight points in the final 20 minutes. A collective effort carried the team to an 86-60 victory.
By the numbers:
- 53 points in the first half is the most by Widener in any first half this season
- The bench put up 32 points, including 18 from Peters
- WU shot 55 percent from three-point range, its second best performance of the year behind the win against Gwynedd Mercy on November 17
- Elijah Boyd tied a career-high 25 points, hitting five shots from deep. The junior also led the team in assists with four.
- The Pride outrebounded the Dutchmen 36-39
