Connor Laverty scored a career-high 23 points as the Widener University men's basketball team battled closely with MAC Commonwealth leader Arcadia, eventually falling 73-66 on Wednesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Laverty posted his personal best total on 9-for-19 shooting from the floor including 4-for-7 from three point range.
- Jalen Howard fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
- Elijah Boyd and Jared Peters also reached double figures with 11 apiece.
- Widener held even with the Knights in rebounding at 43-43. Arcadia came into the game +8.2 in rebounding margin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue and Gold jumped to a quick 13-2 lead less than five minutes into the contest, connecting on 4-of-7 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free throw line.
- WU maintained the advantage and led 20-10 before the Knights fought back, taking a 30-26 with 4:07 remaining.
- The Pride finished the half with a flourish, scoring 10 of the final 14 points in the frame, taking a 36-34 edge into halftime.
- Widener and Arcadia traded baskets early before a 16-7 run during a six-and-a-half minute stretch of the second half allowed the Knights to pull away.
