@WidenerFHockey Gets a Win Against Alvernia in OT Thriller

CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener University field hockey team won its fifth match of the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Alvernia University 3-2 in overtime.

Madi Radnoff contributed two goals in the first half to give the Pride a 2-0 lead. Two goals from the Golden Wolves tied it at the break. Defensive adjustments at halftime from both sides limited scoring chances. Two minutes into the first overtime period, Gianna Perna found the back of the cage, securing the victory for Widener. This was a huge win for the Pride, knocking off the team that eliminated it from the MAC Commonwealth Championship last year.

First Half Summary
  • Madi Radnoff capitalized on a Jesse Schlosser blocked shot, putting the rebound past the Alvernia keeper for her fourth goal of the season. (10:10)
  • 12 minutes later, Radnoff struck again, shooting from the left side and beating the goalie low.
  • Two goals from the Golden Wolves in the 23rd and 33rd minute tied it at the half.
Second Half Summary
  • Victoria Byrne entered the match as the new keeper for the Pride, notching two saves.
  • The Widener defense remained solid for the rest of the day.
Overtime 1 Summary
  • Widener attacked right out the gates and secured two corners. The second corner from Madi Radnoff was passed to Gianna Perna, who placed a beautiful shot from the left side in the back of the cage.
