Lynch Records 11 Points as @WidenerWLax Tops Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Kelly Lynch had her third game this season with 10 or more points as the Widener University women's lacrosse team picked up its first conference win with a 18-9 victory against the Hood Blazers on Friday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Lynch led the Pride with five goals and six assists for 11 points.
  • Two other players had hat tricks as Caroline Kelley scored four times and Meg Steffney tallied three.
  • Melanie Bert and Ashley Mastronardo each scored twice with Bert adding two helpers.
  • Lexi Colella and Emma DiGilio both found the back of the net for Widener.
  • Erika Peters led the Blue and Gold with five ground balls. Megan Racioppi won six draw controls.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams played a tight contest early, trading goals through the first 13 minutes of the game.
  • Trailing 4-3, Widener got the first of back-to-back goals by Steffney with feeds from Lynch, taking a 5-4 lead with 14:53 left in the first half.
  • The two scores ignited a 9-0 run, spanning intermission, that saw Widener open a 12-4 lead.
  • Hood was able to hang around and trailed 15-8 before Bert, Colella, and Kelley needed just 29 seconds to push the lead to 18-8 and salt the game away.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue and Gold is back in action on Wednesday, April 11 when it hosts No. 13 Messiah at Dixon Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
