FREDERICK, Md. – The Widener University baseball team split a pair of games with the Hood College Blazers to end the 2018 regular season. The Pride won the opener 8-2 before falling in the nightcap 13-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE (Widener 8, Hood 2)
- The Pride opened the scoring in the second on a two-run homer by DeBellis.
- Widener put the game away with a six run fourth inning. Glenn Seymour walked, followed by a DeBellis double to plate the first run. After a groundout moved DeBellis to third, a Matthew Guarino double scored him to make it 4-0.
- Dylan Morrissette came up next and followed with a double of his own, sending Guarino to third in front of a single by Brenna Taylor to bring home both runners for a 6-0 lead.
- Two batters later, Mike Garofolo cracked his third homer of the season to cap the scoring for the frame.
- The Blazers came up with single runs in the fourth and sixth to cement the score.
- Peiffer got the win, improving to 4-1 with his second consecutive complete game.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO (Hood 13, Widener 4)
- Hood opened a quick 3-0 lead through the first two innings.
- Widener battled back to tie it with a two out rally in the third. Greg Elfreth got things started with a double and came home on a two-bagger by Garofolo. Nick D'Alessandro followed with a single to plate Garofolo, cutting the lead to 3-2 before Seymour knocked in D'Alessanfdro with a triple to knot the score at 3-3.
- The Blue and Gold took a brief 4-3 lead in the fourth as Morrissette doubled and moved to third on a single before scoring on a wild pitch. The Blazers came right back in the bottom of the inning with a run to tie the contest at 4-4.
- Hood had the final say, putting up seven runs in the fourth inning and two in the sixth to cement the final.

The No. 4 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship, Widener will take on No. 1 Alvernia on May 3 at 4:00 p.m. The double elimination tournament will be held at PEOPLEsBank Park in York, Pa.
