BY THE NUMBERS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener scored the first run of the game in the third inning as Taylor led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly from DeBellis.
  • After Cabrini came back with three in the fourth, the Pride took the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Glenn Seymour led off the inning with a double. A ground ball advanced him to third where he stood for Ryan Bennett who lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Seymour.
  • Not done, the Blue and Gold got the offense restarted as Brandon Reis looped a double down the right field line. Peiffer stood in next and launched a two-run homer over the leftfield wall, putting Widener on top 4-3.
  • The Pride extended the lead two innings later as Tommy Scharnikow walked and was sacrificed to second before scoring on a Peiffer double. A bunt single by Taylor moved Peiffer to third before Widener executed a double steal pushed the lead to 6-3.
  • Cabrini did not go quietly as in the seventh, a two-run homer from Vince Gares cut the edge to 6-5.
  • The Blue and Gold broke the game open in the eighth, scoring five times, the key shots a two-run single from Elfreth and a three-run big fly from DeBellis as the Pride sent 10 batters to the plate.
