Peiffer Tosses Shutout as @WidenerBaseball Splits with Albright

CHESTER, Pa.Dylan Peiffer pitched a complete game shutout in the second game of a doubleheader as the Widener University baseball team split a doubleheader with the Albright Lions, winning game two 5-0 after dropping the opener 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Prior to the game Widener honored its 2018 senior class with a ceremony celebrating its accomplishments the past four seasons.
 
BY THE NUMBERS  
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE (Albright 4, Widener 1)
  • After Albright scored a run in the top of the third, Widener went to work in the bottom of the inning. Morrissette led off with a double and was sacrificed to third by Kyle Buchman, on a 1-1 count, Taylor laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring Morrissette to tie the game.
  • The Lions took the lead on an unearned run in the sixth. The Pride put a runner on third followed a double by Glenn Seymour and a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning, but could not push the equalizer across.
  • Albright plated two more in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO (Widener 5, Albright 0)
  • Widener jumped on the board right away as a double and a single put runners on second and third leading off the inning. Sac flies by D'Alessandro and Seymour plated Elfreth and Garofolo to make it 2-0 Pride.
  • In the third, Taylor and Elfreth singled to open the inning and were moved up on a sac bunt by Garofolo. D'Alessandro stood in next and ripped a single to left, scoring both runners for a 4-0 lead for the Blue and Gold.
  • Morrissette made it 5-0 in the fourth when he clubbed his first homer of the season.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the field on Monday, April 23 when it hosts Cabrini. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
