Jones Turns in Dominating Performance as @WidenerBaseball Takes Opener at Albright

READING, Pa.Kade Jones turned in a phenomenal performance on the mound as the Widener University baseball team opened its MAC Commonwealth series against the Albright Lions with a 5-0 win on Friday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jones authored the best outing of his collegiate career to date, going 8.2 shutout innings, scattering five hits, and striking out four.
  • Nick D'Alessandro led the offense, reaching base all five times he came to the plate, going 2-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored, and an RBI.
  • Mike Garofolo also had a big day with three hits. Matthew Guarino and Dylan Morrissette each posted two hits and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener got Jones all the offense he needed for the game in the second inning when with one out, Guarino singled. Two batters later, Kyle Buchman walked, moving Guarino to third. With Brennan Taylor at the plate, Buchman stole second with the throw going into centerfield, allowing Guarino to come home with the first run of the game.
  • Another run came across in the third as Guarino singled home D'Alessandro who had walked with one out and moved to second on a Glenn Seymour free pass.
  • In the fifth, D'Alessandro doubled and stole third before coming in on a passed ball to make it 3-0 WU.
  • The Pride added single runs in the seventh and eighth to seal the win.
