@WidenerWlax Rallies But Upended by Elizabethtown

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Trailing by as many as many as six goals in the second half, the Widener University women's lacrosse team stormed back to tie the score, but just missed finishing the comeback as the Pride fell to Elizabethtown 14-13 on Tuesday morning.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kelly Lynch recorded three goals and three assists in the game. Her second goal, late in the second period was the 100th point of her career.
  • Caroline Kelley also had three goals while Melanie Bert, Kristi Rohrer, and Meg Steffney each had two.
  • Rohrer also had two assists, scooped four ground balls and won two draw controls.
  • Katie Hayes made 17 saves for the Pride.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener and Elizabethtown matched goal-for-goal through the first 22 minutes of the contest as the score was tied 4-4 following a goal by Lynch with 7:33 remaining in the opening half.
  • The Bluejays went on a scoring surge at the end of the first half and opening the second, netting six in a row to take a 10-4 advantage just more than a minute into the second stanza.
  • Trailing 12-6, the Blue and Gold rallied. After netting three in a row to pull to 12-9 at the 16:23 mark, both teams went quiet offensively for more than eight minutes before the Pride ripped goals from Kelley, Rohrer, and Lynch in a span of 1:11 to tie the game with 6:50 left.
  • Elizabethtown scored twice to go up 14-12. Widener found the back of the net on a goal by Kaylee Horchak, but could not net the equalizer in the final 98 seconds.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride returns to action on Wednesday, March 14 when it hosts Cabrini. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
