GRANTHAM, Pa. –
Elijah Boyd recorded his second double-double of the season, but the Widener University men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped, falling 68-51 to the Messiah Falcons on Thursday night.
The Pride held a slim early lead before a 9-0 Messiah run put the Falcons on top 14-7 at the 15:33 mark. Widener clawed back to take a 23-19 lead with just under eight minutes left in the opening frame, but a 16-2 spurt by the Falcons pushed the home team ahead by 10 before they carried a 35-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Messiah pushed its lead out to 15 at 55-40 by the midway mark of the period. The two teams played evenly down the stretch as the Pride and Falcons traded baskets until the final horn.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Boyd tallied his second double-double of the year behind 14 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. He also accomplished the feat in the first meeting between Widener and Messiah.
- Tyler Drews tied Boyd for team-high honors with 14 points.
