ARLINGTON, Va. –
Kelly Lynch and Caroline Kelley each scored five goals, but the Widener University women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action to the Marymount (Va.) Saints 17-13 on Saturday afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS
- It was the second straight game Lynch found rope five times. She also added an assist for a team leading six points.
- The five goals for Kelley were a career-high and came on just five shots.
- Kristi Rohrer (2) and Meg Steffney (1) also scored for Widener.
- Erika Peters led the way for The Blue and Gold with five ground balls.
- The Pride held a 16-14 edge in draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener fell behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes of play before a pair of goals by Lynch near the midway mark of the first half tied the score at 2-2.
- Marymount responded, scoring nine of the final 11 goals of the opening 30 minutes to take a 11-4 lead at halftime.
- After the Saints scored the first two markers of the second stanza to take a 13-4 advantage, the Pride roared back, going on an 8-1 run to chop the edge to 14-12 with just more than 10 minutes remaining. Marymount recovered to score three in a row and salt the game away.
