SALISBURY, Md. – Six different players scored for the Widener University men's lacrosse team, but the Pride fell to the No. 1 Salisbury Gulls 18-6 in its season opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Shane Cook, Brandon Sweder, Chris Drake, Kevin Kerby, Brady Franks, and John Dunbar each found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold.
• Cook also picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
• Anthony Paone scooped nine ground balls and won 14-of-24 faceoffs.
• Matt Horton made 19 saves for Widener

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Pride got the first goal of the game as Cook scored unassisted just more than three minutes in to the contest.
• The Sea Gulls scored the next four before tallies from Dunbar and Kerby sandwiched a Salisbury score and cut the lead to 5-3.
• Trailing by four at the break, goals by Franks and Drake kept the Blue and Gold in the contest at 9-6 before the Sea Gulls clamped down defensively and pulled away.

Widener returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 when it hosts its home opener against Swarthmore. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
