MIAMI, Fla. –
Connor Laverty led four players in double figures, but the Widener University men's basketball team dropped a tough 80-70 decision to Case Western Reserve to conclude the 2018 portion of its schedule.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Laverty topped the Pride in points, rebounds, and assists with 15, seven, and three respectively.
- Ryan McMahon posted 13 points.
- Jared Peters and Pat Holden had 10 apiece off the bench.
- The Blue and Gold held on to the ball well, committing just nine turnovers, its lowest total of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After CWRU jumped to an early 8-2 lead less than three minutes in, Widener tied the game with six points in a row, all from Laverty.
- The Spartans seemed to take control of the half, going up 26-17 with 6:15 left, but the Pride responded again, as a 10-7 run chopped the lead to 29-27 before Case Western Reserve went into halftime with a 36-33 edge.
- Early in the second half, CWRU extended to a 12-point lead. WU cut the deficit to 49-44 on a trey by Peters, but the Spartans pulled away for the win down the stretch.
