SCRANTON, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures, but the Widener University men's basketball team dropped a tough road contest 84-74 to the Scranton Royals on Tuesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Tyler Drews led the Pride for the third time this season, netting 15 points in the game. He also topped the team with six rebounds and four assists.
- Pat Holden was in scored dropped 14 points for the second time in three games
- Elijah Boyd also posted 14. Jalen Howard had 10.
- Widener forced 23 turnovers and took 11 more shots than Scranton, but the Royals connected on 53.6 percent of their field goal attempts.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- The two teams started the gam very evenly matched as the score was knotted at 18-18 midway through the first period before the Blue and Gold went on a 10-1 run to take a 28-19 lead on a free throw by Howard with 6:39 to play.
- Scranton stormed back to tie the game at 37-37 heading into halftime.
- Drews tallied 11 in the opening 20 minutes while Howard had eight.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- The first two minutes of the frame matched the first half as the teams traded baskets early.
- Scranton began to pull away, but Widener kept the game close towards the midway mark of the period.
- WU cut the lead to four at 68-64 on a jumper by Ryan McMahon with 6:05 to go, but the Royals closed on a 16-10 run to seal the victory.
