CHESTER, Pa. (April 5, 2017) - The Widener University women's lacrosse team fell to Albright on Tuesday evening by a 17-11 decision at the Edith R. Dixon field.
The Pride got on the board first three minutes into play with an unassisted goal from sophomore
Kristi Rohrer (Seaville, N.J.), however, the Lions answered back with a 4-0 run to put them ahead. Widener's freshman
Meg Steffney (West Deptford, N.J.) broke up the scoring in the 16th minute by firing an unassisted goal into the back of the net. Freshman
Melanie Bert (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Steffney each netted last minute goals to end the half, but it was not enough as Albright led the way into the recess with a score of 10-6.
With the Widener offense in check, the Lions scored three more goals to open the half and pad their lead 13-6. The Pride attempted to claw back by scoring five goals in the second half, however, the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Senior
Grace Morales (East Norwich, N.Y.) turned away eight shots in the losing effort for Widener and Hayley Joyce recorded eight saves for the victory between the pipes.
Widener (3-7, 0-3 MACC) is scheduled to return to action when it travels to play Stevenson on Saturday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m.
