CHESTER, Pa. (April 23, 2017) - Sophomore
Stephen DeBellis and senior
Justin Healey each recorded a home run to lead the Widener University baseball team to a 12-9 victory over Lebanon Valley on Sunday afternoon.
DeBellis hit his third homer of the season to start the Pride off strong in the first inning and put them ahead 2-0. The Dutchmen's Marshall Kiesling then hit a solo shot out of right field to cut the deficit down by one and Zac Edwards tied the game with an RBI double down the right field line.
With the game tied at two, and two on base, Chris DeClerrico homered out of left field to put Lebanon Valley ahead 5-2 in the top of the third frame.
Lebanon Valley then added another run in the fourth, however, Widener tacked on nine more runs in a stand-out sixth inning to come back and take the lead.
Freshman
Dylan Peiffer sparked the hit brigade with a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in senior
Justin Healey and senior
Bob Barnett followed with an RBI double to left field. Senior
Kyle Lowery reached home on a fielder's choice to tie the game and DeBellis then put the Pride ahead, 8-6, by advancing two runs with a single up center field. Healey continued to pad Widener's lead with a three-run homer to close out the scoring in the frame.
The Dutchmen added three more runs in the top of the eighth inning with a homer from Nick O'Shea, but it was not enough to defeat the victorious Widener Pride.
Widener will return to action on Wednesday, April 26 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Elizabethtown.
