CHESTER, Pa. (April 19, 2017) – The Widener University baseball team defeated Keystone, 7-4, in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon.
Keystone quickly go on the board with a three run homer and an RBI double, however, the Pride answered back with two runs in the third frame to cut the deficit down to two. Junior
Joe Addvensky (Milford, Pa.) singled up the middle to drive in junior Mike Garafalo (Pitman, N.J.) and sophomore Stephen Debellis (Marlton, N.J.) hit an RBI single to third base to advance
Glenn Seymour home for the second run.
After an attempted bunt from Garafolo, an error from Keystone's first baseman allowed him to get on base and advanced two more runs home to tie the score 4-4 in the sixth frame.
Widener began to pull ahead in the following inning with an RBI single to right field from senior
Justin Healey (Ocean City, N.J.). After blanking Keystone for the next six innings, the hosts advanced two more runs on an error at second base to give them the 7-4 victory.
Freshman
Dylan Peiffer (Allentown, Pa.) earned the win on the mound for Widener. He threw two innings, allowed no hits, no runs, struck out two and issued one walk. Joe DeAngelis suffered the loss for the Giants. He threw one and two-thirds innings, surrendered four hits, three runs, struck out one and issued one walk.
The Pride will return to action at home on Friday, April 21 to take on Lebanon Valley at 3:30 p.m.
